Danish Kaneria is poised to be a major threat to India ahead of the much-vaunted Test series in Pakistan, believes Younis Khan, the Pakistan vice-captain.
"He is the best leg-spinner in the world today after Shane Warne. I think Kaneria gives us the edge," he told BBC Sport. "Our team has been doing very well and I think it will remind people of the unbeatable team which we once had under Imran Khan."
Pakistan's comprehensive Test and one-day wins over England recently has given the home side a vital boost ahead of the India series. "Our side is very balanced now, with a good bowling attack, and the batting prowess shown by our players in the England series is a good indication of what we are capable of," said Younis. "I am keenly waiting for the series to begin."
India are also confident after a 2-0 home success against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded three-match Test series. Commenting on the inclusion of Sourav Ganguly in the squad for the three Tests, Younis said that it was the correct decision. "I think Ganguly is a terrific player," he said. "India won a lot of matches under his captaincy, which can never be overlooked. His return will surely add experience to the team." It is Rahul Dravid, India's captain, who remains the most highly prized wicket, added Younis. "He is a great batsman and capable of changing the fortunes of a game at any time."
Younis was the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in the Test series in India earlier this year with 508 runs - including a match-winning 267 in the final Test at Bangalore - while Kaneria was the leading wicket-taker on either side with 19.
The first Test begins at Lahore on 13 January.
