Bob Woolmer, the Pakistan coach, has said that England were not invincible despite their Ashes win against Australia, and his young team could beat them when they tour Pakistan in November.
"England have beaten Australia but there is not an aura of invincibility about England yet and if we put up a disciplined effort we can burst their Ashes bubble," said Woolmer, who was part of England's Ashes-winning team in 1975. "England have done well in Test cricket recently but they still need to create that aura of invincibility of the West Indies of 1970s and 80s and of recent Australia."
Pakistan is scheduled to face buoyed-up England, who regained the Ashes after 16 years, in three Tests and five one-day matches. Despite his side's triumph, Michael Vaughan has admitted that there was still some work to do before they can claim to be the undisputable champions, starting with series victories in Pakistan and India - early next year.
"I think it's going to be a very hard fought series, and if England have done well recently, we have also been shaping up well and can pose a real challenge," he explained. "The side which does well in all three departments will win the series and we have to be very disciplined against England who have quality bowlers and batsmen. I am pleased with the strength and fitness of my team. We have been training for a month now and this has made it possible for us to compete very, very severely."
Woolmer said that England's bowlers - Simon Jones, Andrew Flintoff - praised for their reverse swing in the Ashes, would find it hard to achieve that in Pakistan with a different kind of ball. "The difference will be the Kookaburra ball. It is different to the Duke ball which they used in England."
Meanwhile Woolmer also hinted the recall of Mushtaq Ahmed, who hasn't played for Pakistan since 2003. "If we decide to play two spinners, Mushtaq can be an option besides Danish Kaneria and Mushtaq has bowled well in county cricket [Sussex]."
